Entrance Standards for Grace Extension Program

(by grade, approximate ages)
Standards for all grades are cumulative prior to entry into fifth grade.

Kindergarten (5-6 year olds)
hold and use a pencil correctly
write name / recite alphabet / count to 10

1st Grade (6-7 year olds)
use scissors, tie shoes, zip coat
write / name / sound-out alphabet
read simple three / four letter words
write the numbers 0 to 30
count by 1's to 50, by 5's & 10's to 100
recognize / name 1 & 2 digit numbers

2nd Grade (7-8 year olds)
fluently read & comprehend Frog & Toad are Friends
print alphabet (upper & lower case)
write a complete sentence
quickly add and subtract 1 & 2 digit problems

3rd Grade (8-9 year olds)
fluently read Charlotte's Web
answer comp. questions in complete sentences
add / subtract problems with borrowing & carrying
100 addition / subtraction facts in 7 min. each
read a clock & count money

4th Grade (9-10 year olds)
fluently read The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe
label parts of speech: subj, adj, adv, prep, op, art, & v
master third grade math concepts (Saxon 3)

5th Grade (10-11 year olds)
fluently read & summarize The Last Battle
master fourth grade math concepts (Saxon 54)

6th Grade (11-12 year olds)
fluently read & summarize The Hobbit
label parts of speech: direct object and indirect object
master fifth grade math concepts (Saxon 65)
